The business was established by Steve Henderson with a simple objective: to provide a high standard of customer service, accurate and easy-to-read surveys, and prompt turnaround times. My name is Steve Henderson and I am the owner and lead surveyor at Henderson Building Surveyors.
Before establishing the business, I developed my surveying experience within the social housing sector, gaining first-hand knowledge of residential property construction, maintenance, defects and building performance.
I became accustomed with the importance of ‘knowing your patch’. Understanding that certain defects are more common within specific ages and style of property.
It led me to be confident that, in order to provide the best surveying services, I would want to keep my practice small, highly specialised, and local. As such, we focus on the key areas of Reading, Oxford and Newbury. This encompasses all the towns and villages in between in Berkshire and Oxfordshire. There is a similar, shared vernacular in this beautiful part of the world, allowing us to give our clients advice from a base of confidence.
I moved into private practice work where I spent three years at a heritage surveying company. I undertook RICS surveys on period and listed properties, from Victorian terraces to Medieval hall houses and their dragon beams! This side of surveying took my heart, there is nothing more beautiful than a home looked after as it should have been, and enduring the centuries with grace and style.
The experiences provided the foundation for launching Henderson Building Surveyors in December 2020, allowing me to pursue a long-term ambition of building a surveying practice centred around quality, communication and customer service. We have built over the years to become a leading local practice. We have maintained a customer-first approach while ensuring high standards and prompt service.
My aim remains the same as it was in 2020, underpins all we do at Henderson Building Surveyors, and is straightforward: to provide surveys that are accurate, practical and easy to understand, helping clients make informed property decisions with confidence.
